Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my rate per kWh?
On your electricity bill, usually as "unit rate" or "price per kWh". If your tariff has tiers or day/night rates, use the rate the appliance actually runs on.
The label shows amps, not watts
Watts = volts × amps. A 5 A appliance on a 230 V supply draws about 1150 W; on 120 V, about 600 W.
Why is my fridge's real cost lower than its rated watts suggest?
Compressor appliances cycle on and off, so they draw their rated power only part of the time. For those, use the yearly kWh figure on the energy label instead: divide it by 365, then by your daily hours.
