How to compare fairly

Use the same unit for both quantities — grams vs grams, ml vs ml, sheets vs sheets. If one label says 0.5 kg and the other 800 g, enter 500 and 800. The price per unit then compares directly, which is exactly the small-print number on supermarket shelf labels.

Is the bigger pack always cheaper per unit?

Usually, but not reliably — supermarkets sometimes price small packs on promotion below the bulk price per unit. That's why checking takes seconds and pays off.

What about products measured in different units?

Convert one to the other first (1 kg = 1000 g, 1 L = 1000 ml). Comparing price-per-kg against price-per-litre only works when density is 1, like water.

Does a cheaper unit price always mean better value?

Only if you'll use it all. A bulk pack you throw a third away from is more expensive per used unit than the small one.
