Equivalent exposures keep image brightness the same while trading aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Opening aperture, raising ISO, or removing ND filtration lets you use a faster shutter speed. Stopping down, lowering ISO, or adding ND filtration requires a slower shutter speed.

What is one stop?
One stop doubles or halves the amount of light. For example, ISO 100 to ISO 200 is +1 stop, while 1/125s to 1/250s is -1 stop of exposure time.
How do ND filters affect exposure?
An ND filter blocks light. A 6-stop ND filter requires a shutter speed 64 times longer if aperture and ISO stay the same.
Does equivalent exposure preserve the same photo?
Only brightness. Aperture changes depth of field, shutter speed changes motion blur, and ISO changes noise.
