How to play

Type a five-letter word using your keyboard or the on-screen one, then press Enter to lock it in. Every guess must be exactly five letters, and the game accepts any five-letter combination — there's no dictionary check, so opening guesses like “roate” are fair game even though they're not real words. After each guess, every tile is colored: green means that letter is in the right spot, yellow means it's in the word but in a different spot, and dark gray means it's not in the word at all. Duplicate letters are scored the way the original does — a letter is only marked yellow as many times as it actually appears in the answer, with green matches claimed first. The on-screen keyboard remembers your guessed letters' colors so you can track what you know at a glance. You get six guesses per round, and there's no daily limit — press New word any time for a fresh round.

Are my stats saved?

Yes, partially. Your win count, current streak, and total games played are saved locally in this browser via localStorage and reload automatically the next time you visit, so they build up over multiple sessions rather than resetting each time. What isn't saved is your progress mid-round — if you refresh the page in the middle of a guess, that in-progress board is lost and a new word starts, though your wins, streak, and played totals stay intact. Like any local-storage value, these numbers are tied to this browser and device and won't follow you elsewhere.

Is there a daily limit?

No. Unlike some word-guessing games that give you one puzzle per day, this one has no cap at all — press New word as often as you like and get a fresh five-letter word instantly. That makes it better suited to quick repeated practice than to a once-a-day ritual: play a single round on a break, or run through a dozen back to back if you're trying to build a longer streak. Every round pulls independently from the word list, so you might occasionally see repeats.

How are duplicate letters scored?

The scoring mirrors how the original word-guessing games handle it. First, every letter that's in the exact right position is marked green, and those letters are removed from consideration. Then, for any letters left over, a letter is marked yellow only as many times as it still appears in the answer after the greens are accounted for — so if the answer has one “E” and your guess has two, only one “E” can turn yellow, not both. This means guessing a word with a repeated letter doesn't guarantee two matching hints back.
