Frequently asked questions
Are bar and atmosphere the same?
Nearly, but not quite: 1 bar = 100 kPa exactly, while 1 atm = 101.325 kPa — about 1.3% more. Bar is the convenient round metric unit; atm is defined from average sea-level air pressure.
What tire pressure unit does my country use?
The US uses psi, most of Europe uses bar, and many Asian countries use kPa. 32 psi ≈ 2.2 bar ≈ 220 kPa — all the same pressure.
What is mmHg used for?
Blood pressure (a reading of "120 over 80" is in mmHg) and older barometers. It's the pressure exerted by a column of mercury of that height; 760 mmHg = 1 atm.
