How the shot count is calculated
Each frame covers its horizontal angle of view; consecutive frames must overlap (25–35% is the sweet spot for stitching software). The effective step per shot is AOV × (1 − overlap), and the calculator adds frames until the full panorama angle is covered.
Panorama shooting tips
- Shoot in portrait orientation — more vertical coverage means less cropping after stitching.
- Use manual exposure, focus, and white balance so frames match.
- Rotate around the lens's no-parallax point for close foregrounds.
- Overlap more (40–50%) for scenes with sky, water, or repeating texture.
Frequently asked questions
Why portrait orientation?
A portrait-oriented frame is taller, so the stitched strip has more vertical resolution and survives horizon-leveling crops. It costs more shots, which this calculator accounts for.
Can I do a 360° panorama?
Yes — enter 360. For a full spherical panorama you'd also shoot multiple rows; multiply the shot count by the number of rows you need vertically.
